Over the past five years, export growth had shown an increase of 10.9% p.a. in dollar terms, while imports had increased by 2.2% p.a. The latest 12-month merchandise trade balance measured a surplus of R371 billion, compared with a R71 billion surplus recorded during the 12-month period a year earlier.
