Compared with the previous month, the rand weakened slightly in January 2021 against nearly all major developed market and developing market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to -1.4%. Month-on-month, the rand depreciated by 0.8% against the US dollar, by 2.5% against the British pound, by 1.1% against the Japanese yen, and by 1.2% against the euro. The rand was 1.6% weaker against the Swiss franc and 1.9%, against the Chinese yuan. The rand depreciated by 3.8% against the Australian dollar and by 2.4% against the NZ dollar.
