Compared with the previous month, the rand weakened in April 2020 against all major emerging market and developed market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to -13%. Month-on-month, the rand depreciated by 11.5% against the US dollar, by 11.6% against the British pound, by 11.7% against the Japanese yen, and by 10% against the euro. The rand lost 14.9% against the Swiss franc. The rand also weakened by no less than 28% against the Brazilian real and by 16% against the Indian rupee.
