The Economist Intelligence Unit’s annual benchmarking study of countries’ digital development, previously known as the "e-readiness rankings", have been released for 2010. South Africa has climbed one spot to 40th position. Sweden supplanted Denmark as the global e-readiness leader with South Africa still in the top position for Africa, followed by Egypt (57), Nigeria (61) and Algeria (68).
The EIU’s annual benchmarking study of countries digital development measures the ability of countries to use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to develop one’s economy and to foster one’s welfare.
Each year, in cooperation with the IBM Institute for Business Value, the Economist Intelligence Unit produces a ranking of e-readiness across countries, based on six pillars of e-readiness: connectivity & technology infrastructure, business environment, social & cultural environment, legal environment, government policy & vision and consumer & business adoption.
