The latest 12-month merchandise trade deficit measured R64 billion which was R26 billion more than the previous 12 months’ deficit. Over the past three months, 9 of the 23 export categories showed a positive annualised change in dollar terms. The largest increases for categories (constituting more than 1% of total exports), measured in US dollars and at 3m/3m annualised rates, were: Plastics & articles thereof; rubber & articles thereof (28.8%); Products of the chemical or allied industries (22%); Vehicles, aircraft, vessels & associated transport equipment (5.2%).
