The Consumer Vulnerability Index (CVI) for South Africa amounted to 47.9 in the first quarter of 2018 – down on the score registered in the previous two quarters and on par with the scores recorded during the first half of 2017. The CVI has been essentially been on a sideways trajectory over the past three-and-a-half years, after declining moderately between 2009 and 2013.
