The Consumer Vulnerability Index (CVI) for South Africa amounted to 47.9 in the fourth quarter of 2016 – down on the score registered in the previous quarter and also lower than the score of 52.1 recorded a year ago in the first quarter 2016. The CVI has been on a downtrend since 2008, with the average CVI score during the past year being 17.7 points lower than in 2008.
