South Africa Foreign Exchange Market (Monthly Report) - January 2016

In December 2015, measured on a year ago, the rand depreciated most against the US dollar (-28.6% y/y) and the Japanese yen (-27.4%). The rand also lost heavily against the Swiss franc (-25.7%), the Chinese yuan (-24.5%) and the British pound (-23.5%). However, the rand did strengthen against the Russian rouble (4.3% y/y) and the Brazilian real (11.4% y/y).
