South Africa Economic Indicators (Monthly Report) - November 2015

The latest composite leading indicator of economic activity compiled by the South African Reserve Bank, decreased by 0.1% in August 2015 compared with July 2015. Measured on a year ago, the index again declined by a relatively large –4.7%. Recent figures indicate that our recession probability indicator has remained relatively stable over the past few months. Using smoothed data up to end-August 2015, the probability of a recession occurring within the next twelve months, was around 36%.
